1. These types of joints are usually created on the vertical section on the wood. Dados can be used for installing shelves, to add braces to table legs, to insert a panel into a door frame for example. 

2. The first known use of a Dado in tradition woodworking dates back to 188, however there are claims dados date back to the late 1600's in Italy. Dados have been a very important and frequently used joint for at least a century.

3. A Dado can be created with many different tools. So examples are: Hand saw, Chisel, mallet, router, table saw. 

4. Dados can be created with hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power tools.

5. dados hold up very well to stressors

6. Materials play are large role when created a dado. We used pine, a very soft wood, which made it very easy to pass a router through and achieve a perfect finish with our chisel and mallet.

7. It occurred to us how important it was to have a jig with creating our dado. 

8. I believe the joint holds the same importance it always has in cabinetry when looking for a quality woodworking.
