Scarf Joint

Scarf Joint                                                      Emilie & Sam

The scarf joint is a joint that typically uses two diagonal interlocking faces. It is often used when there is a lack of length in the material where a joint is needed. That being said, you would typically find this joint used during restoration projects. It is also commonly used while building guitar necks. It may be an alternative to other joints such as the butt joint and the splice joint.

The plain scarf joint is typically used in decorative situations where strength in the joint isn’t too important. Other styles of this joint however, such as the hooked scarf and locked scarf create a very strong joint.
